Francisco Torres

PhD student, PhD students

Biography

Francisco received his MSc degree in Aerospace Engineering from Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain) in 2016. He then obtained a Research Master diploma from the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics. In 2017, he received a FWO SB fellowship to continue his research on thermal degradation of spacecraft components during atmospheric re-entry under the supervision of Prof. Blondeau at the VUB, in a joint PhD program with VKI and Gent University. During his PhD research, he is also collaborating with NASA Ames Research Center with summer stays.

Research Interests

Currently, he is carrying out his PhD on the study of thermal decomposition of carbon composites for atmospheric re-entry, with a particular focus on the thermal degradation of phenolic resin, and thermal properties of carbon fibers.
